County Bankruptcies Dip 2.1% as State Filings Rise
- Share via
Bankruptcy filings in Ventura County declined last year, bucking a statewide trend.
Individuals and companies in the county filed a total of 4,435 petitions in U.S. Bankruptcy Court last year, 2.1% fewer than the previous year, according to CDB Infotek, a Santa Ana public records service.
Statewide, a total of 183,334 bankruptcy petitions were filed last year, 5.2% more than in 1994. The increase in California perplexed some economists who believe the state is recovering from the recession.
