Driver Gets 6 Months in Death of Girl, 3

A Ventura man has been sentenced to six months in jail for causing the accident that killed a 3-year-old Santa Paula girl, Jazmin Revelez.
Paul Callahan, 51, pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter in February after investigators said he lost control of his car when using the median of California 126 to pass slower vehicles.
The resulting spin-out started a three-car chain reaction that caused a pickup truck driven by Revelez’s mother to roll over. Revelez was not fastened in a child protective seat and was thrown from the vehicle.
Investigators have said that Callahan told them he was late for an appointment that November day. No other explanations were offered, and Callahan did not appear at his sentencing Wednesday.
Callahan, who had no criminal record, was also sentenced to three years probation.
