NEW YORK — A memorial service will be held for Commerce Secretary Ronald H. Brown at Harlem’s historic Apollo Theater in the next 10 days, his widow and Rep. Charles B. Rangel (D-N.Y.) announced Friday.
Rangel said he and Brown, who both grew up in Harlem, had been friends for 40 years. Rangel recalled working as a desk clerk in the Theresa Hotel, where Brown’s father was the manager.
Rangel said the Apollo was a “fitting” venue because many African American entertainers stayed at the Theresa before performing at the Apollo.
