Whittaker May Shed Defense, Other Operations

Whittaker Corp. is considering the sale of its defense unit and spinoff of its communications business, according to its chief executive.
Thomas Brancati said the Simi Valley-based aerospace and communications company has held talks with a major defense company, which he would not identify. He also declined to put a value on the transaction.
Brancati stressed that the company is “not actively engaged” in trying to sell the defense unit, and that the company had been approached about selling it.
He also said that spinning off the communications business is only one option the company is considering.
