Police Seeks Witnesses to Hit-and-Run of Girl

Running out of leads in the investigation of a hit-and-run accident, the Altadena branch of the California Highway Patrol this week passed out fliers at Two Strike Park in La Crescenta, where a 9-year-old girl was struck by a car.

Every bone in the 4-foot, 4-inch girl’s body is broken from the hips down. She has a blood clot in her head, but her condition has improved from critical to serious, said officials at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.

Only a few witnesses have come forward to tell police they saw a white Toyota 4-Runner hit the girl at 2:30 p.m. on April 25, but CHP officers said more people must have witnessed the accident.

“At that time of day two schools are letting out in the area. We imagine a lot more witnesses must have seen what happened,” said Officer Chris Linehan.

Police hope that by passing out fliers at the scene exactly a week later they might reach people who were there at the time of the accident.

The flier might even alert the driver of the 5,000-pound car that the accident occurred, Linehan said. “When we’re talking about such a big difference between the weights and sizes [of the girl and the car], the chances are the driver didn’t know he was involved in an accident.”

Regardless of whether the driver was aware of the accident, he or she will still face a felony charge for leaving the scene, Linehan said.
