Leadership of the Ventura Harbor may be in turmoil (B1), but business there is great. . . . The occupancy rate at Harbor Village is at an all-time high of about 97%. And tourists in a recent unscientific survey by the Ventura Visitors & Convention Bureau rated the harbor over downtown as an attraction.
No Slouch
The Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center is the eternal kid brother, forever compared to that giant Civic Arts Plaza in Thousand Oaks. Well, the little guy is doing OK. . . . Simi Valley’s mailing list, which stood at a grand total of 0 when the renovated church opened in November, is up to 2,200. Even some out-of-towners are on the list; the farthest is in Goleta. Compared to the Civic Arts Plaza . . . well, don’t.
Busy Honoree
Marcene Jardine Camp of Oxnard joins an exalted group in being awarded a Brigham Young University Alumni Assn. Community Service Award. . . . Thousand Oaks City Manager Grant Brimhall, Superior Court Judge John J. Hunter and longtime Boy Scouts executive John Gessford are the only other honorees in local memory. . . . Camp’s accomplishments? The longtime music teacher has served seemingly every musical, cultural and community organization around.
