Woodbridge Beats El Toro With Sacrifice Fly in 13th

Lindsey Cohan’s sacrifice fly scored Kristy Clarke in the bottom of the 13th inning as fourth-ranked Woodbridge beat 10th-ranked El Toro, 1-0, in a Sea View League softball game.

Woodbridge (24-5, 10-0) won its 15th straight league title as Christy Robitaille pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11. Jennifer Morey broke up the no-hitter in the sixth inning.

Robitaille outpitched El Toro’s Suzanne Guy (8-3), who won an appeal to the Southern Section earlier in the day regarding her residential eligibility. Guy missed the last two games for El Toro (18-12, 6-4), both losses, with the threat of forfeiting all the games she played looming over the team.

El Toro tied ninth-ranked Irvine, a 6-1 winner over Corona del Mar, for second place.

In the Century League:

Foothill 3, Canyon 1--Jamie Clark had two hits, an RBI and scored as No. 1 Foothill (26-2, 10-0) won its sixth straight title.

Villa Park 5, Santa Ana Valley 0--Krista Daniels’ three-hitter gave Villa Park (13-14, 5-5) the opportunity to host a third-place playoff with El Modena today.

In the Empire League:

Cypress 2, El Dorado 0 (8)--Dusty Creager’s two-run triple in the eighth upset El Dorado (17-7, 8-2), giving Kennedy (16-7, 9-1) its seventh title in nine years. Lisa Monreal (12-8-1) gave up six hits for Cypress (12-12-1, 6-4).

In the Freeway League:

Sonora 2, Fullerton 1--Sonora and Troy (a 15-1 winner over Buena Park) play today in a third-place playoff game at Troy.

In the Garden Grove League:

Pacifica 13, La Quinta 0 (5, mercy)--Toni Mascarenas, Dara Tovias and Amanda Freed combined for a no-hitter for No. 3 Pacifica (24-3, 11-1).

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 5, Cerritos Valley Christian 1--Sarah Garrido had three hits and drove in two runs as Calvary Chapel (18-9, 8-2) won its first Olympic League softball title. The Eagles, also got a home run from Christy Ring. Keri Przygocki (13-5) gave up six hits to the four-time defending champion Crusaders (13-5-1, 6-4).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Aliso Niguel 4, University 1--Allison Batten tripled as Aliso Niguel (14-11, 9-1), in its third year, snapped Laguna Hills’ five-year league championship streak.

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 17, Mission Viejo 0 (5, mercy)--Brooke Hofstetter pitched a one-hitter for No. 2 Mater Dei (24-1, 10-0).

In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 4, Fountain Valley 1--Jessica Walker’s two hits and two runs led No. 6 Huntington Beach (20-8, 8-2), forcing a first-place tie. A coin flip will decide the league’s first-place playoff entry. No. 8 Fountain Valley is 17-9, 8-2.

Los Alamitos 1, Marina 0--Los Alamitos (16-10-1, 6-4), by beating Marina (13-12-1, 6-4) twice, takes third place. Cyndi Tredway’s single scored Megan Barnes in the fifth for the Griffins.

In Southern Section Division III boys’ diving:

Lippincott fifth--Brethren Christian’s Steven Lippincott scored a 342.60 in the medal round. Lompoc Cabrillo’s Jason Graves won with 446.75.
