Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, Councilman Mike Hernandez and Police Chief Willie L. Williams officially opened a combined transit store and police service center in Lincoln Heights.
About 50 people filled the Northeast Transit Store for the ceremony Thursday.
The center at 2401 N. Broadway will provide a convenient walk-in site for people to obtain information on public transportation services in the area.
The store, which began operating in April, is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The police center component, which begins operation Monday, was created to address the lack of a police division in Lincoln Heights. A police officer will be assigned to the center weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The project, spearheaded by the city’s Department of Transportation, operates with a $120,000 yearly budget provided by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for two years.
