Lennox Man Slain After Pointing Pistol at Deputies
- Share via
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a man who was pointing a handgun at them from inside an apartment in the Lennox neighborhood Friday, Deputy Bill Martin said.
The confrontation began when deputies on routine patrol along Inglewood Avenue saw a young boy who they believed should have been in school. They took him to his apartment, where they saw a male adult holding a wad of cash. When the man saw them, he dropped the money and put both hands behind his back, Martin said.
“They ordered him to show his hands several times, and he refused to comply,” Martin said. Instead, the suspect brought his right hand out holding a large-caliber handgun that he pointed at the deputies, Martin said.
During a brief exchange, the man was shot several times in the upper body. He was pronounced dead at Centinela Hospital, Martin said.
The department is investigating the incident. The victim’s name had not been released.
