Firefighters are crediting automatic sprinklers with minimizing damage during a two-alarm fire at a 100,000-square-foot furniture manufacturing plant in Simi Valley.
The Friday night fire at Wambold Furniture, 6800 Smith Road, caused about $50,000 in damage to the $3-million structure and its contents, a county Fire Department spokeswoman said. It took firefighters more than four hours to extinguish the blaze. Much of the fire was contained in the equipment room where it started, she said. The blaze was caused by a malfunctioning compressor that caught fire, the spokeswoman said.
