DHAKA, Bangladesh — As rescuers searched for victims of a devastating tornado earlier last week, new rainstorms killed four people and injured 50 others in northern Bangladesh, police said Saturday.
The four bodies were recovered from the debris of their collapsed houses after Friday’s storms, said Irsat Jahan, a government administrator. The storms destroyed more than 800 mud-and-thatch houses in the Pabna district, 75 miles northwest of the capital, Dhaka.
The latest storms struck as the death toll rose to 615 from Monday’s tornado in the plains of the Tangail district in the north. Hundreds more are missing, and 34,000 people were injured.
