Man Killed as Truck Rolls Off Onramp

A 25-year-old man was killed when his truck rolled down an embankment beside the Ventura Freeway in Thousand Oaks, authorities said.
Thomas J. Burke of Westlake was pronounced dead moments after rescue personnel arrived on scene about 9 p.m. Tuesday, coroner’s officials said.
Burke was traveling on the Westlake Boulevard onramp toward the northbound Ventura Freeway when he lost control of his truck and rolled down an embankment, the California Highway Patrol said.
The car came to rest upside-down, and Burke had to be extracted by firefighters.
Authorities said excessive speed may have been a contributing factor. Burke was not wearing a seat belt, coroner’s officials said.
