Ticket Machine Was Too Much for Thieves

Call it The Case of the Tantalizing Tickets.

Ventura County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the attempted theft of a ticket-vending machine at the MetroLink train station in Camarillo earlier this week.

The would-be thieves tried to knock over the vending machine with a pickup truck in an attempt to steal either MetroLink tickets or the money that people spend on them.

But the heist was foiled when the suspects were unable to loosen the weighty device.

“The monetary loss is typically very little, maybe a couple of hundred bucks,” Sgt. Bob Larson said. “But those machines can cost up to $66,000 each. It’s been a big problem in Los Angeles County.”
