Robert Hilburn states that Oasis is the biggest act to come out of England since the Beatles (“Absolutely Fab-ulous,” May 26). I seem to remember reading a Times article about 12 years ago about a British band that had taken America by storm.
This band had a “pop” sound and millions of screaming girls that would do anything to be with them. At that time they were called “The Fab Five,” a nickname they freely accepted. Do you remember Duran Duran? Remember Simon Le Bon, or better yet “the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man”?
Only time will tell if Oasis, a one-album wonder, can keep the momentum to last as long as Duran Duran.
