Catalina Catamaran Begins Service

Sail Catalina, a 65-foot sailing catamaran, has begun daily passenger service to Catalina Island, making it the newest cross-channel passenger service between the mainland and Avalon.
The trip to Catalina is made under diesel power, the return under sail. The 49-passenger vessel departs from Peter’s Landing in Huntington Harbor at 8:15 a.m., arriving in Avalon in about 75 minutes. It leaves Avalon at 3 p.m., and the return trip takes from two to three hours, depending on the wind. Adult round-trip fare is $48.50; seniors, $44.50; and children, 2-11, $42.
