Physician Found Guilty of False Tax Statement

A jury on Thursday convicted Huntington Beach physician Nagesh Shetty on three counts of making a false statement on his income tax form.
Shetty was arrested July 1994 on 28 counts of mail fraud, but those charges were dropped. Earlier this month, he retained celebrity lawyer and law professor Alan Dershowitz to argue that he had been denied a right to a speedy trial. He lost, and his trial began last week.
Shetty will be sentenced Sept. 16 by U.S. Dist. Judge Gary L. Taylor.
