Times Mirror to Acquire Apartment Search: Times Mirror Co. said it has reached an agreement in principle to acquire Apartment Search Inc., the nation’s largest apartment search service company. Terms of the agreement have not been disclosed. Minneapolis-based Apartment Search helps prospective renters in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Kansas City, Detroit, Washington and Baltimore areas find apartments through 37 stores. With a digital database of more than 600,000 rental units in its five markets, the company expects to serve about 160,000 renters in 1996. In February, Apartment Search formed a partnership with the Baltimore Sun, a Times Mirror newspaper. Los Angeles-based Times Mirror owns the Los Angeles Times.
