People / Spotlight on achievers : Mother, Plumber Honored as Heroes
- Share via
Two people who assisted in the lifesaving rescue of a 2 1/2-year-old boy in May have been honored as heroes by the City Council.
The council passed a resolution that praised Maggie Castro, the boy’s mother, and Geoff Carroll, a Huntington Beach plumber who was working at the Castros’ La Palma home at the time of the accident.
When Castro’s son, Kyle, fell into the backyard swimming pool, she dived into the water and brought him to the surface. Carroll helped pull the child from the pool and began mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, reviving the boy.
Fire officials said the quick action by the mother and Carroll saved the boy’s life. The City Council noted that Carroll, who has had cardiopulmonary resuscitation training, “instinctively” knew what to do in the emergency.
