Japan to Enter Satellite Business: A Japanese consortium has reached agreement with a unit of Hughes Electronics Corp. to launch commercial satellites starting in 2000, a consortium official said. The move marks the first entry by a Japanese company into the satellite-launch business. Rocket System Corp., Japan’s sole satellite-launch firm, will use a remodeled version of the H-2 rocket to launch the satellites.
