NATIONWIDE : Joke Campaign Touts Castro for President

A computer programmer kicked off a tongue-in-cheek cyberspace campaign to elect Fidel Castro president of the United States. A page on the World Wide Web jokingly touts the Cuban leader as an alternative to President Clinton and former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole. Its creator said he got the idea while reading an article on U.S.-Cuba relations. “It referred to Fidel Castro as the nemesis of the American political establishment,” said Adam Reith, of Santa Cruz, Calif. “I said, ‘That is exactly what America is looking for!’ He is the ultimate Washington outsider.”
