GEORGIA : 2 Blacks Winning in White Districts

Two black Democrats led in primary voting as the first U.S. House members to seek reelection in districts that were redrawn under court order from majority black to mainly white. With 66% of precincts reporting, Rep. Sanford Bishop, a former state lawmaker serving his second term, was beating two white male Democrats in the 2nd District. Rep. Cynthia McKinney, Georgia’s first black congresswoman, was ahead of three white male Democrats in the 4th District east of Atlanta.
