VERMONT : ‘Motor Voter Law’ Will Take Effect

Vermont will begin complying this summer with a federal law that simplifies voter registration, the Justice Department announced. The National Voter Registration Act of 1993, known as the “motor voter law,” required most states to provide voter registration for federal elections by January 1995 at all motor vehicle offices and other state agencies as well as through the mail. Vermont and two other states were given additional time to amend state constitutions that conflicted with the law.
