OLYMPICS DAILY REPORT : Canadian Woman Named Referee

Sonia Denoncourt of Canada will become the first female soccer referee in the Olympics when she officiates Sunday’s game between Japan and Germany at Birmingham, Ala.
FIFA’s referees committee picked Lucian Bouchardeau of Nigeria to officiate the United States men’s opener against Argentina on Saturday, also in Birmingham.
The committee also ended the suspension of Dutch referee Dick Jol and cleared him of allegations he bet on matches.
