The city of Burbank is seeking volunteers 55 and older for a variety of programs.
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program needs morning drivers and someone with computer knowledge of Word Perfect and/or Professional Write to assist the Burbank Temporary Aid Center, a nonprofit organization that provides food, clothing and other items to needy members of the community.
Responsible adults are needed for Glendale’s citizen patrol program. Each applicant must pass a background check and attend 20 hours of training before they are assigned to a unit.
The duties include parking enforcement, traffic control and vacation house checks, among others, and volunteers must be willing to donate 10 hours a week to the program.
Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic in Los Angeles seeks volunteers with at least two years of college experience to record books, work as book preparers, equipment technicians or administrative assistants for at least two hours a week on a regular basis.

Hospice Preferred Choice, Inc., needs volunteers throughout the Greater Los Angeles area. Orientation and training will begin in mid--August in San Fernando Valley.
There’s no educational or age restrictions, and volunteers learn firsthand about the care of terminally ill patients. Volunteers will visit patients’ families, run errands, make phone calls and assist the bereavement and spiritual counselors.
