Update / Follow-up on the news : Trash Pickup Fees Cut for Homes, Businesses
- Share via
City residents will be paying less for residential and business trash collection this fiscal year.
At a public hearing earlier this month, City Manager Daniel E. Keen said: “This is a little unusual in that instead of proposing an increase, we’re proposing a decrease in trash rates.”
Keen said the city could give its commercial hauler, Park Disposal, a 1% increase and still be able to reduce trash rates. The reason, Keen said, is that the county has substantially reduced its landfill cost to haulers.
The rate reduction will be retroactive to July 1. The fee is now $14.75 a month for residences. Commercial rates will vary but will decrease by 3.8% to 6% according to types of containers and number of collections weekly.
