Although her two-run home run helped the U.S. beat China, 3-1, for the gold medal in softball, Dot Richardson’s victory celebration didn’t last long.
Richardson, an orthopedic surgeon from Sherman Oaks, flew back to Los Angeles on Wednesday and planned to assist on a hand surgery today at County-USC Medical Center.
Richardson, 34, the NCAA player of the decade for the 1980s as a shortstop at UCLA said winning the gold was a perfect way to end her softball career.
“We did it for all the people who played before and are playing now,” she said. “And for those who are going to play in the future.”
