Shoppers are gearing up for the opening Thursday of a 136,000-square-foot Price-Costco warehouse store at 5700 Lindero Canyon Road in Westlake Village.
Price-Costco, a members-only store, will be the 270th store in the combined Price Club and Costco Wholesale chain. Price-Costco was formed in 1993 with the merger of the two discount operations.
Each Price-Costco warehouse carries a wide variety of merchandise, including apparel, groceries, electronics, automotive supplies and housewares.
There are 196 Price-Costco stores in the United States, with other stores in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom and Korea. Membership is open to business owners, managers, licensed professionals and members and employees of various qualified groups. The membership count is in excess of 18 million.
The Issaquah, Wash.-based company reported $17.9 billion in revenue for the 1995 fiscal year.
Price-Costco’s Westlake Village store is part of the Westlake North Specific Plan. Drawn up in 1989, the plan calls for commercial development, a four-acre park and 179 single-family homes to be built on the 130-acre property. A proposal was made to the Westlake Village City Council earlier this month to increase the number of homes to a maximum of 540.
