VENTURA — A 22-year-old Ventura man was taken into custody Friday for allegedly having a concealed, loaded weapon in his vehicle and for resisting an officer, authorities said.
About 5:45 p.m., Ventura police received a call about a man with a gun sitting in a car in the parking lot of a shopping center near Main Street and Ventura Avenue, Lt. Dave Inglis said.
“As officers were coming toward him, he ran,” Inglis said.
Officers chased Jeremy James McCubbin south across Main Street, through a field, and caught up with him in the Garden Estates Apartments on Garden Street.
A .22-caliber handgun was found in the car, which was parked in front of a check-cashing business, authorities said.
McCubbin was being held at Ventura County Jail on Friday night on misdemeanor counts of carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a loaded weapon and resisting an officer, a jail spokesman said. His bail was set at $500.
