San Francisco’s starting left tackle Kirk Scrafford will sit out six to 10 weeks after severely spraining his right ankle in the 49ers’ 16-13 victory over the San Diego Chargers, Coach George Seifert said Sunday.
Muscle and cartilage above and below the ankle were torn, and team doctor Michael Dillingham told Seifert it probably would heal faster if it had been broken.
Seifert said Jeff Wilkins’ job is safe, even after the kicker missed three field goals and an extra point against San Diego before kicking a game-winning 43-yarder in overtime.
