Chase Manhattan Leads in Assets: The New York-based bank tops the list of the biggest U.S. banks, with $321.76 billion in assets, according to the latest issue of American Banker. Rounding out the list of the top five U.S. banks, based on total assets at the end of the second quarter, were New York-based Citicorp, with $266,824 billion; San Francisco-based BankAmerica Corp., with $238,841 billion; New York-based J.P. Morgan & Co., with $198,765 billion; and Charlotte, N.C.-based NationsBank Corp., with $192,308 billion.
