WASHINGTON — The state of New York and the District of Columbia have the worst-maintained bridges in the nation, according to a survey by the American Automobile Assn. released Monday.
The AAA said 63% of New York’s bridges need extensive repair or replacement and that 60% of the bridges in Washington need repair or replacement.
It said the state with the best bridges is Arizona, with only 10% in poor condition.
Robert Darbelnet, president of the group of 106 local automobile clubs, said the nation’s transport infrastructure was deteriorating because the government was investing only a fraction of the funds needed for maintenance.
