FULLERTON — Rick Vanderhook, a Cal State Fullerton assistant baseball coach for Augie Garrido the last six seasons, said Tuesday he has decided to remain at Fullerton.
Vanderhook said he informed Garrido of his decision. Garrido, who resigned to become coach at Texas, was considering Vanderhook for a position there. Vanderhook said he hopes associate head coach George Horton will succeed Garrido.
Vanderhook, who also coached under Garrido before Garrido moved to Illinois, was an assistant under Bill Kernen at Cal State Northridge in 1989 and 1990, then returned to Fullerton with Garrido.
Vanderhook has been the Titan third-base coach, as well as recruiting coordinator. A former Fullerton player, Vanderhook also played for Cerritos College when Horton coached there.
