Historical Society May Go to Bryant Ranch

After two decades of seeking a permanent home, the Yorba Linda Heritage Museum and Historical Society may finally get a place of its own.
The city’s Planning Commission has approved a proposal to build 48 new homes near Camino De Bryant and La Palma Avenue. Pacific Heritage Development, the Mission Viejo-based company building the tract, agreed to donate the last remaining building of the historic Bryant Ranch to the group as part of the development deal.
If the City Council gives final approval to the plan, the tract will be built around the former ranch house that belonged to Susanna Bixby Bryant, who inherited the ranch from her father, John Bixby.
Though the historical society was established in the 1970s, this would be its first fixed location.
In addition to restoring the house, the group is working to revive the famed botanical gardens that were part of the 5,600-acre ranch.
Most of the plants were moved to a garden in Claremont during the 1950s. With the help of the city, the group is trying to return some of the plants to Yorba Linda.
