The Cincinnati Bengals re-signed cornerback Rod Jones, nine days after they released him.
Jones, 32, took the roster spot of second-year free safety Chris Shelling, who was waived. Jones agreed to a one-year contract.
Jones was a mainstay of the Bengals’ defense the last six years. He started 37 consecutive games before injuries sidelined him midway through last season. The Bengals brought him back because they decided they needed another cornerback more than they needed five safeties, according to General Manager Mike Brown.
