The Westlake Village Yacht Club’s annual Sail-A-Thon last month raised $17,500 for Casa Pacifica, a shelter for abused, neglected and abandoned children.
“Our overall hope is with corporate donations we’ll raise over $20,000,” said Sail-A-Thon coordinator Susan Artof.
Corporate donations were expected to roll in by the end of the month, she said.
Casa Pacifica will receive about $13,000 of the money already raised by the Sail-A-Thon, which will be used to fund programs for preschool-age children. The balance will be used to cover the Sail-A-Thon’s costs.
The Westlake Village Yacht Club has raised nearly $35,000 for Casa Pacifica in the three years the event has been held.
The facility near Camarillo State Hospital offers both short-term shelter to children experiencing family problems, and longer-term care for emotionally disturbed youths.
