The youngest son of Irvine Ranch heiress Joan Irvine Smith was arrested on suspicion of possessing less than a gram of cocaine, authorities said Monday.
Morton Irvine Smith, 31, of Huntington Beach was taken into custody about 3:30 a.m. Saturday near 28th Street and Balboa Boulevard after officers found about half a gram of cocaine on his person, Sgt. John Desmond said.
Smith was a passenger in a 1985 BMW driven by Lee James Chidester, whom police had suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. In arresting Chidester, 47, of Whittier, authorities searched Smith and found the cocaine, police said.
Smith was released on $10,000 bail several hours after his arrest.
