Magnolia Bulls Through Garden Grove

GARDEN GROVE — Magnolia took advantage of great field position and a strong rushing game to beat Magnolia, 33-12, Thursday at Garden Grove High.
The Sentinels rushed for 255 yards and five touchdowns. Sam Uai ran for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Mike Estrada rushed for 52 yards and a touchdown and Will Speer 51 yards and a score.
“We didn’t have to throw tonight,” Magnolia Coach Bill Friedrich said. “We got ahead early and we tried to move the ball on the ground.”
Magnolia (2-2) took advantage of field position to build a 25-6 lead. The Sentinels scored on four of their five first-half possessions, with their average starting position the Garden Grove 38. Only a fumble inside the Argonaut 10-yard line tripped them up in the first half. Uai scored on runs of 24 and 14 yards, and Speer and Anthony Zaragoza added touchdowns.
Garden Grove (0-4) gained 274 yards and scored for the first time in three games. The Argonauts drove 77 yards in the first quarter, with Faustino Campa connecting with Ray Drenner in the right corner of the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown. They scored again on the final play of the first half, when Rick Welty hooked up with Daniel Do for a 12-yard touchdown.
