PORT HUENEME — A pregnant 30-year-old Oxnard woman and her four young children sustained minor injuries Tuesday afternoon when the woman’s station wagon collided with a van and ended up at the bottom of a 15-foot-deep flood control channel, authorities said.
Leticia Nevarrez, who is eight months pregnant, and her kids, ranging from 5 to 10 years old, were released from St. John’s Medical Center in Oxnard after treatment.
The accident occurred when a Ventura County van driven by Gary Cooper, a government employee, pulled out of a shopping center parking lot and collided with Nevarrez’s car, which was headed west on Channel Islands Boulevard, police said.
Her vehicle went out of control and into the drainage channel in the center of the boulevard.
