Goalkeeper Tawni Takagi of Cal State Northridge leads the NCAA Division I West Region in saves with 90 in 14 matches. Takagi has two shutouts and a 2.37 goals against average for the 4-9-1 Matadors.

About 1,400 fans showed up to watch the Northridge men’s and women’s basketball teams officially begin practice at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday morning.
That is roughly twice the largest crowd to see a Northridge game last year at Matador Gym.

The men (7-5) are led by senior forward Aluede Okokhere, who has 15 goals and three assists. Okokhere, a native of Lagos, Nigeria, was the 1995 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player of the year.
Senior forward Jill Simmer has 11 goals and six assists for the Regals (11-2).
