Davis Is the Key to Golden West’s Victory in Wrestling

Raphael Davis’ 13-9 victory in the 177-pound weight class was the difference in Golden West’s 23-18 victory over Palomar in a South Coast Conference wrestling match Wednesday.
Golden West posted other four victories. Kia Korki (126) beat Palomar’s Levi Harbin, 8-5, in a 126-pound match, Jason Lowe (135) recorded a major fall over Mike Metzger, 13-5, and Gaig Garriott and Steve Cooper also won for Golden West (10-1, 3-0).
In another South Coast Conference wrestling match:
Cerritos 24, Rancho Santiago 17--Ishmail Abdullah won, 5-0, at 177 pounds for Rancho Santiago in a loss to Cerritos. Rancho Santiago’s Carlos Miranda won, 8-4, at 190 pounds.
In South Coast Conference women’s golf:
Orange Coast 389, Long Beach 536, Rio Hondo 550--Mawa Kanazawa shot a 92 at Skylinks (par 74) to lead Orange Coast (11-12, 4-4).
In Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball:
Golden West 3, Cypress 0--Golden West extended its conference winning streak to 117 matches with a 15-8, 15-2, 15-2 victory at Cypress. Lorna Lyttle had 10 kills to lead the Rustlers (8-0, 3-0). Mindy Sheets had four kills for Cypress (5-4, 0-2).
In nonconference women’s volleyball:
San Diego City 3, Rancho Santiago 0--Rancho Santiago was unable to generate any offense as San Diego won, 15-12, 15-8, 15-12. Amy Napier had eight kills for Rancho Santiago, which remains winless (0-8, 0-2).
In South Coast Conference water polo:
Golden West 20, Cerritos 6--Sixteen players scored goals for Golden West, including Cole Lunde, who had three. The Rustlers led, 11-0, at the half.
