Florida State, Miami Players in Trouble

A four-year-old bet involving a football jersey and the Florida State-Miami game drew the attention of the NCAA as possible illegal gambling and at least temporarily got Hurricane defensive end Kenny Holmes and Seminole linebacker Henri Crockett and defensive tackle Connell Spain declared ineligible. Both schools are appealing the incident in which Holmes gave his jersey to Crockett and Spain after the game because Florida State held a 3-2 lead in the series during the fifth-year seniors’ time at the schools. . . . Quarterback Jesse Palmer, who threw for 1,600 yards and 22 touchdowns in Ottawa’s minor football league last year, has orally agreed to play at the University of Florida next season.
