Miami Stuns No. 12 West Virginia

Tremain Mack blocked Brian West’s punt with 29 seconds to play and Nathaniel Brooks returned it 20 yards for a touchdown as No. 25 Miami stunned 12th-ranked West Virginia, 10-7, Saturday night in a Big East game at Morgantown, W.Va.
Miami, 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the Big East, appeared seconds away from a third consecutive loss. But West Virginia (7-1, 3-1) gave up its lead in the race for the conference’s berth in an alliance bowl.

Donovan McNabb threw for two touchdowns and ran for two as Syracuse (4-2, 4-0) posted a 45-17 Big East triumph over Boston College (4-4, 1-3) at Boston. . . . Jim Druckenmiller threw two touchdown passes to Shawn Scales, and Ken Oxendine ran for 111 yards and two touchdowns as Virginia Tech (5-1, 4-1) overcame a lackluster start to post a 34-17 Big East victory over Pittsburgh (2-6, 1-4) at Blacksburg, Va. . . . Derek Ward recovered a fumble by Ramod Lee inches from the goal line with 2:36 to play and Rutgers (2-6, 1-4) held on for a 28-17 Big East victory at Temple (1-7, 0-4).
EAST
Matt Linit kicked a 35-yard field goal with 2:13 left to lead Columbia (6-0, 3-0) to a 13-10 victory over Yale (2-4, 1-1) in an Ivy League game at New Haven, Conn. . . . Derek Yankoff’s 63-yard interception return in the first half provided the only points Harvard (3-3, 1-2) needed in a 24-0 Ivy League victory over Princeton (1-5, 0-3) at Princeton, N.J.
Quarterback Jason McCullough and Sean Morey recovered from a fumbled exchange to connect on a touchdown play with 33 seconds to play to give Brown (3-3, 2-1) a 27-21 Ivy League victory over Pennsylvania (2-4, 0-3) at Providence, R.I. . . . Jon Aljancic passed for 321 yards and two touchdowns and Greg Smith rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns to lead Dartmouth (6-0) to a 38-21 victory over Cornell (2-4) at Ithaca, N.Y.
MIDWEST
Joe Hewitt ran for 148 yards as Army beat Miami of Ohio, 27-7, at Oxford, Ohio, to improve to 7-0 for the first time in 46 years. Miami fell to 4-5.
SOUTH
Kendrick Lee’s 29-yard punt return set up Eric Booth’s one-yard touchdown run with 6:04 left and No. 24 Southern Mississippi (7-1, 3-0) avoided an upset with a 31-28 victory over Tulane (2-5, 1-2) in a Conference USA game at New Orleans. . . . Robert Cooper ran for 69 yards and a touchdown and Cincinnati (4-4, 2-2) won, 10-7, over Louisville (4-4, 1-2) in a Conference USA game at Louisville. . . . Freshman Darren Brister scored two touchdowns to lead Southwestern Louisiana to a 13-9 victory over Memphis in a Conference USA game at Lafayette, La.
Chris McCoy (181 yards, two touchdowns) and Omar Nelson (81 yards, two touchdowns) led Navy (5-1) to a 47-18 victory over reeling Wake Forest (2-6) at Winston-Salem, N.C. . . . A blocked punt by Eric Ogbogu set up Maryland’s go-ahead score as the Terrapins (4-4, 2-3) continued their mastery of Duke (0-7, 0-4) with a 22-19 Atlantic Coast Conference victory at Durham, N.C. . . . Charlie Rogers scored three touchdowns and Georgia Tech (5-2) posted a 27-20 nonconference victory over Central Florida (2-6) at Atlanta. . . . Chris Keldorf threw for four touchdowns as No. 9-ranked North Carolina (6-1) posted a 42-14 victory over Houston (4-4) in a nonleague game at Houston.

Chris Lemon rushed 29 times for 129 yards and a touchdown and John Dutton threw two touchdown passes as Nevada (5-3, 2-1) posted a 40-13 Big West victory over North Texas (3-5, 1-1) at Denton, Texas. . . . Running back Damario Brown’s three first-half touchdowns fueled a 35-28 Big West homecoming victory for Utah State (5-4, 3-0) over Idaho (3-4, 1-1) at Logan, Utah. . . . Denvis Manns rushed for 205 yards in leading New Mexico State (1-7) to a 52-21 nonleague victory over Southern Utah (4-5).
SOUTHLAND
Anthony Rice’s interception with 47 seconds left gave La Verne (5-1) a 22-19 Division II victory at Chapman (5-1). . . . Jesse Wilson took the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown and Butler (2-6, 1-3) won, 34-3, over San Diego (2-5, 1-3) in a Pioneer League game at Indianapolis. . . . Azusa Pacific (6-1) rallied from a nine-point fourth-quarter deficit to post a 22-21 victory over Chico State (3-4) in an NAIA game at Chico. . . . Shilo Smith passed for three touchdowns to lead Menlo (5-1) to a 27-0 victory over Whittier (0-6) in a Division III game at Atherton, Calif.
