Battle of Bands Planned Next Month

Ten Camarillo-area garage bands will compete in the Battle of the Bands late next month.
The contest is one of the first efforts hosted by the Camarillo Youth Advisory Council, a group of teenagers and city leaders who promote activities for young people. The City Council has also agreed to pay for security.
At the request of the youth task force, the City Council approved spending $563 on extra officers to patrol Pleasant Valley Park during the five-hour concert competition.
Youth leaders said they would make some money off concessions and entry fees, but they asked the council for help so they would not have to cut into the club’s $1,500 bank account.
Expected to attract between 500 and 1,500 teenagers, the concert contest is scheduled for Nov. 30 from noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call 388-5314.
