The Jewish Federation Valley Alliance extends its Mitzvah Day celebration with an address by Mayor Richard Riordan at the Volunteer Recognition Awards tonight.
The awards ceremony begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Bernard Milken Jewish Community Center campus, 22622 Vanowen St., and will honor the efforts of volunteers from 25 Valley synagogues and organizations.
Held on Oct. 20, the second annual Mitzvah Day was a multifaith event that brought together volunteers to promote taking an active role in the community. This year, about 2,500 people took part, working on more than 70 projects to benefit children and others in the community.
The mayor is expected to discuss the link between the well-being of children and community volunteerism during his keynote speech to the group. The event is free, but reservations are required.
For more information and reservations, call the Jewish Community Relations Committee of the JFVA at (818) 587-3203.
