The city’s school district has formed a community boundary realignment advisory committee in an effort to alleviate overcrowding in some areas and plan for future class-size reductions.
The committee will research and study school boundaries and make recommendations to the school board on possible changes.
At its first meeting last week, the 25-member committee outlined goals, including maintaining the concept of neighborhood schools wherever possible, incorporating natural boundaries such as freeways and major streets, maintaining a reasonably balanced racial and ethnic mix and minimizing transportation time.
Upcoming committee meetings, which are open to the public, will be tonight and Nov. 13; Dec. 4, 11 and 18; and Jan. 8. The meetings will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the board room of the district administrative offices, 300 South C St., Tustin.
The committee will report its findings to the district’s Board of Education in January.
