Aaron Flowers, Cal State Northridge’s record-setting quarterback, has been chosen the Big Sky Conference’s top newcomer in a vote of conference coaches.

Flowers, a junior transfer from Valley College, passed for 3,540 yards and 30 touchdowns, both school records.

He was rated 10th among Division I-AA quarterbacks and was second in the nation in total offense.

Receiver David Romines was the only Northridge player to make the all-Big Sky first team. Romines, a senior, led the nation with averages of 8.7 catches and 130 yards receiving a game.

Second-team selections from Northridge included Flowers, junior receiver Cameron Perry, senior defensive lineman Hernan Santiago, junior linebacker Marc Goodson, junior cornerback Bennie Herron, senior safety Doug Varner and senior punter Joe LaFirenza.

The Matadors’ honorable mention picks were junior receiver Jerome Henry, sophomore offensive tackle David San Vicente, junior running back Norman Clarke and senior safety Steve Standifer.

The conference’s co-offensive players of the year were Montana quarterback Brian Ah Yat and Northern Arizona running back Archie Amerson.

Montana linebacker Jason Crebo was the defensive player of the year.

Northridge (7-4) finished in third place after being picked last in a preseason poll.
