Larissa Carter, a middle blocker at Fountain Valley, said she has orally committed to play volleyball at UC Irvine.
Carter was the Sunset League’s co-most valuable player this season and helped the Barons win the Southern Section Division I-A championship. Fountain Valley, which finished 19-3, lost in the state Division I semifinals.

Nevada’s Trevor Insley, a graduate of San Clemente High School, has been named to the Sporting News freshman All-American college football team.
Insley caught 36 passes for 574 yards and five touchdowns for the Wolfpack this season. He started all but one game.
Insley was a first-team All-Orange County selection last season.

Marisa Emde, a 5-6 guard for Marina High, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Southern California College, Vanguard Coach Russ Davis announced.
