U.S., Mexico OK Antipollution Pact

Satisfying the mandates of the North American Free Trade Agreement, the United States and Mexico announced an agreement to work together on environmental problems along their border from California to Texas. The five-year program will involve four U.S. agencies and two Mexican offices and will focus on countering health problems linked to exposure to chemicals, improving treatment of waste and drinking water, reducing air pollution and tracking shipments of hazardous substances across the border.
