Trees to Be Planted at 150 Residences

ReLeaf Anaheim, a nonprofit civic group that seeks to create greener neighborhoods citywide, is spearheading a project to plant 150 trees in the parkways of residents who have requested trees in the last three years.

Known as the West 150 project, the latest effort is in conjunction with the city’s Community Services Department and the state urban forestry division.

Neighborhoods receiving trees are bordered by the Riverside Freeway on the north, Cerritos Avenue on the south, Holder Avenue on the west and Gilbert Street on the east.

ReLeaf Anaheim already has held a number of plantings in various west-side neighborhoods. In February 1995, volunteers planted 64 trees near Western and Orange avenues. Last January, they planted 48 near Knott and Orange avenues.

ReLeaf Anaheim’s aim is to plant 20,000 trees by the turn of the century. Since 1991, it has planted about 2,500 trees.
