Council to Study Roller Hockey Site

Pressed to find space for a roller hockey rink, the City Council has agreed to hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. Jan. 6 to choose a possible location.
For several years, the city has discussed building a rink for the sport, but with no success.
“It’s something that people have asked for, and we realize now that it’s not a fad,” Mayor Tracy Wills Worley said. “A lot of kids would like to see it. And ‘Where?’ is the question we need to deal with.”
Among the options are Cedar Grove Park, Laurel Glen Park, a planned 5-acre park at Tustin Ranch Road, or unused tennis courts at a school, Worley said.
Recent recreation studies in Orange County and elsewhere have identified roller hockey as the fastest-growing sport among youths, officials said.
“It would be nice to at least have a practice facility,” Worley said.
